The Evolution of Lucky Group: A Legacy of Innovation and Global Reach

On December 24, 1953, the 199th Administrative Meeting of the Government Affairs Council of the Central People’s Government passed the *Resolution on Establishing a National Film Distribution Network and Film Industry*, mandating the construction of a film stock manufacturing facility in China. This landmark decision laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of China’s imaging and materials science sector.

After years of meticulous planning, site selection, and collaborative efforts, the groundbreaking ceremony for the film stock factory took place on July 1, 1958, in the western suburbs of Baoding, Hebei Province. This strategic location combined logistical advantages with access to skilled labor, marking the dawn of China’s self-reliance in photographic materials.

Pioneering Milestones (1959–1986)

The factory’s 101 Workshop commenced operations on July 1, 1959, producing China’s first batch of 427,000 meters of black-and-white motion picture positive film that year. By August, the facility had successfully trial-produced photographic film, followed by 135mm civilian roll film in October—a testament to rapid technological advancement.

The 1960s–1980s witnessed Lucky’s expansion into global markets

Institutional Growth and Global Expansion

In 1993, China Lucky Film Group Corporation secured autonomous import-export rights, establishing its dedicated trading division. A significant milestone was achieved on January 22, 1998, when Lucky Film shares debuted on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE: 600135), enhancing corporate governance and capital access.
